Aizu Lacquerware

Lacquerware of Aizu, which began when the planting of lacquer trees was encouraged in the Muromachi period and became an industry after the techniques of lacquer craftsmen from Omi spread in the Azuchi-Momoyama period; it has varied finishes such as tetsusabi-nuri, kinmushikui-nuri and kijiro-nuri.
