Echizen Washi Paper

Washi of Echizen City, said to have begun about 1,500 years ago when a princess appeared by the village river and taught papermaking; it was used for copying sutras in the Nara period, and is made from kozo, mitsumata, gampi and hemp by nagashi-zuki or tame-zuki.
