Kasama Ware

Pottery that began in the mid-Edo period when a craftsman of Hakoda fired a kiln under the guidance of a Shigaraki potter; the iron-bearing clay, which would fire a reddish black on its own, is decorated with painting or white clay slip, and pieces are handmade on the wheel, from slabs or by hand-pinching.
