Marugame Uchiwa Fans

Round fans that began as persimmon-tannin fans sold as souvenirs of Konpira pilgrimages, and took root in the mid-Edo period when the Marugame domain encouraged its samurai to make them as a side job; many have the handle and ribs made from a single piece of bamboo, and washi is pasted onto ribs shaved from bamboo.
