Bentwood ware of Odate, encouraged by the Satake-Nishi family, lords of Odate Castle, as a side trade for lower-ranking samurai to make use of the domain's rich forests; thin boards of natural Akita cedar are softened in hot water, bent, and stitched with cherry bark.
