Miyagawa Morning Market

21 Gifu

A morning market on the east bank of the Miyagawa River in Takayama, between Kaji-bashi and Yayoi-bashi bridges. Takayama's morning markets trace back to a mulberry market held around Takayama Betsuin temple in about 1820, and the Miyagawa market moved to its riverside site in 1962. Local vegetables and fruit, mountain vegetables, pickles, folk crafts and seasonal flowers fill the stalls, and in winter preserved foods such as miso, pickles and mochi take centre stage.
