Hagi Ware

35 Yamaguchi

Pottery that began when Yi Jak-gwang, a potter from the Korean Peninsula who returned to Japan with Mori Terumoto, opened a kiln in Hagi; it is known for a soft clay texture that is not tightly fired and for high absorbency, so tea and sake seep in over years of use and change its color, a change prized as chanare.
