Gensui Shuzo Main Store, Kurayoshi

31 Tottori

A brewery making sake since 1848 at the foot of Mount Utsubuki, the symbol of Kurayoshi; its main store forms a handsome corner of earthen storehouses in a townscape of latticed doors. When Togo Heihachiro stayed in Kurayoshi in 1907 with the Crown Prince's tour, its sake, then called Asahi Masamune, was offered, and after Togo became Fleet Admiral (gensui) in 1913 it was renamed Gensui. Nearby, storehouses and stone bridges line the Tamagawa.
