Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery

01 Hokkaido

A whisky distillery between the Yoichi River and JR Yoichi Station. It became a nationally designated Important Cultural Property in recognition of historical value such as the buildings lining the factory grounds keeping the character of its founding era. In 1936 a pot still was installed and brandy and whisky production began, and coal-fired distillation was adopted because coal was cheap in Hokkaido at the time.
