Jojima Sake Breweries

Sake breweries in Jojima, Kurume, where brewing began in the Edo period with the good rice and water of the Chikushi Plain. With a soft-water method for warm climates and quality gains through the Mizuma brewing institute, its output became second in Japan after Nada, earning the phrase "Nada in the east, Jojima in the west." Many breweries stand along rivers for ease of transport, and the Jojima sake brewery story is the first registered Chikugo River heritage.
