Tomita Shuzo, Kinomoto

25 Shiga

A sake brewery in Kinomoto said to date from early in the Tenbun era (1532-1555). In this temple and post town at a key point between Hokuriku and the capital, the Tomita family ran its business beside Joshinji temple, across from the honjin inn. The main house, rebuilt in 1744 after a great fire with a building moved there by the seventh head, is among Kinomoto's oldest townhouses and was registered in 2019. A storehouse rebuilt in 1812 is still used for brewing.
