Kita House

17 Ishikawa

An old house in central Nonoichi whose family brewed sake from the end of the Edo period. The main house, a leading example of Kaga merchant architecture, and its tool storehouse became Important Cultural Properties in 1971, and the brewing buildings behind were added later. The sake storehouse dates from 1870 and the front storehouse from the early 19th century; a rice workshop, storage house, and postwar koji room and rice mill also remain. Brewing ended around 1975.
